The internationally renowned artist Yinka Shonibare is coming to Hereford next January to launch a new artwork.
Creatures of the Mappa Mundi is a multi-piece textile artwork, drawing its inspiration from the strange and wonderful people, real and unreal, on the medieval Mappa Mundi which is on permanent display at Hereford Cathedral.
The project is a partnership between Meadow Arts and Hereford Cathedral. Shonibare has been commissioned to create this artwork and is involving several Herefordshire-based groups in the creation of a series of textile artworks. These explore issues around immigration and environmental protection and will be displayed in the cathedral next year.
The launch event to be filmed and there is an opportunity to be involved with filming on the evening of Thursday January 24. You will need to show an interest in film-making and be able to work independently (with appropriate support).
