Founded in 1967, Ironbridge Gorge Museum is one of the largest independent museums in the world. A registered charity with the twin aims of education and heritage conservation, its mission is to research, preserve and interpret to the widest audiences the remarkable collections and social history of the area that is recognised as the Birthplace of the Industrial Revolution. Set within a 6 square mile UNESCO World Heritage Site and centred on the world’s first cast iron bridge are 10 award winning museums and 36 Scheduled Ancient Monuments and listed buildings that attract 500,000 visitors every year and tell the story of this remarkable part of Britain.
They are looking for candidates for the role of Chief Executive; responsible for leading the museum to ensure that it maintains its position as a world class institution and the UK’s pre-eminent museum of the history of industrialisation.
Working with the Board of Trustees this person will design and implement the strategic plan while leading the senior management team. The Chief Executive will be a passionate advocate for the Museum to external partners and funders as well as the broader museum, arts and tourism sectors.
