Remember when world-renowned textiles (and film and sculpture and everything else) artist Yinka Shonibaré gave a talk at Hereford Cathedral about Empire, elitism and his latest project – installed at the cathedral – the ‘Monsters of the Mappa Mundi’?
You don’t? You should.
You should also check out his pieces in person. The six floor-to-ceiling textile works, some of which were stitched by local community groups, all of which profiling different ‘monsters’ drawn on the shadowy edges of the oldest-remaining map of the world, are being housed alongside the Mappa Mundi in a wing of the Cathedral until June.
But - back in January - if you were at the exhibition launch you may have noticed a film crew shadowing Mr Shonibaré.
That was US network CNN, who were in the process of filming a documentary series on some of most creative and compelling African voices in the worlds of art, design, film and fashion. And the episode on the Turner-nominated British-Nigerian artist airs four times over the weekend, once on Monday and once on Tuesday.
